Color me embarassed

As I was feeding Ace this morning, my brand spanking new cell phone started playing the intro to "Smooth Criminal," indicating that someone was calling me. "Yay," I thought! "Human interaction!" I do love receiving phone calls.

I noticed the call was coming from an unknown number. The only person who ever calls me from an unknown number is my friend Melinda, when she's calling me from work. "Yay," I thought! "My favorite Melinda!"

I answered the phone with a very perky, "Hel-looooOO?" To which the caller responded "Um, to whom am I speaking, please?" Melinda did the same thing last time she called, in a pseudo-professional voice.

Completely sure it was Melinda, I responded with as much attitude as I could muster, "Yo MAMA!"

Not Melinda, the caller responded with "Excuse me?" *pause* "To whom am I speaking, please?"

Now completely sure I'm NOT speaking to Melinda, I answered "...This is Stacey."

Yeah, it was the rep from the pharmaceutical company that supplies Synagis, the RSV vaccine Ace will have to be shot up with monthly through April.

Mortified, I stuttered through an explanation, which was thankfully greeted by laughter and empathy on the nice woman's part.

Wow. From now on, no answering the phone from unknown callers. Because the entire time Melinda's been reading this, she's been planning on calling me and doing the same thing.

I hate when someone calls me and asks who I am. I always say, "You called me. Who are you?"

Even if you were being silly, they should have started with who they were and where they were calling from. This would have saved you being embarassed by the YO MAMA! come-back.

Does ANYONE teach people phone manners any more?

Hellooooooo! Your voice sounded odd, so I thought maybe I'd called the wrong number or something. Jeez! Blame a lesbian for everything.
