Memory Monday

This may be a new weekly feature. It may not. Stay tuned.

As I've said before, many of my fondest memories of my friends and loved ones include music. It'd take too doggone long to find the post, not that I can link it anyway, but I've listed some fond musical memories before. Here's another.

I had a boyfriend named Tony for 4 months when I was 18. I thought for sure we would get married when we first started "dating," (it was long distance, so I don't really know what to call it) and thought when we broke up that nobody would ever ever love me again. It was my first serious relationship, so like many other 18-year-olds, I just knew my life was completely over when the relationship ended. Can you say d-ram-a queen?

Shortly after Tony and I broke up, I went to a party. I was NOT having a good time - just call me Pouty McWhinerston. When I just wanted to go back to my dorm room and cry, my friend Andy put on a CD, jumped on the bar, and started singing "Love Stinks" by the J. Geils Band at the top of his lungs. A few people joined in, but all I can remember is Andy on top of the bar singing to me. I remember him telling me that every time a relationship ends, he sings this song and feels better. I know I did.

This is one of the many reasons that Andy and I are still friends. I haven't seen him in well over a year. His job took him far, far away, and nobody really knows when he'll return. Andy, because of that night and many, many other things, is a fantastic friend and has given me a lot of fond memories.

Actually, Andy and I bonded over music. I had never met anyone else who liked Garth Brooks other than my grandma. Andy and I met in person a few hours before a party we planned for a friend, and while we were getting everything ready, we sang every word to every song of Garth's greatest hits album.

To Andy!

Now that did bring a tear to my eye...but you left out "Summer Lovin'" from the Grease Soundtrack...tsk tsk

I really miss you and everyone else who is reading this and knows who I am. I am working on getting back to the Big Easy for a few days over the next couple of months and would really like to get everyone together if possible? When that happens, I will get in touch with everyone for a midnight run to Krispy Kreme in MS...or did that blow away?
