Why I love my best friend.

Yesterday, I got an e-mail from my best friend that contained a bunch of forwards. I did a little skim through the forwards and realized that the people from whom she'd received the e-mail were frothing at the mouth because Best Buy had DARED include the words "Eid Al-Adha" in one of their circulars and not the words "Merry Christmas."

Here it is, right here! See!

NNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I rolled my eyes a little and then wondered why she'd sent that to me, since she's not usually on the "THIS IS AMURRICA WE MUST NEVER SPEAK OF NO MOOSLIMS HURR" bandwagon. Actually, she never is. I also love her because she loves everyone.

Then I read what she'd written at the top of the e-mail. I hope she doesn't get mad at me for quoting her without permission. Here's what she said:

I never heard of the holiday that Best-buy was well wishing, so did a little research on wikipedia:

Eid al-Adha (Arabic: عيد الأضحى‎ ‘Īdu l-’Aḍḥā) "Festival of Sacrifice" or "Greater Eid" is a holiday celebrated by Muslims worldwide to commemorate the willingness of Abraham (Ibrahim) to sacrifice his son as an act of obedience to God. Eid is also about spending time with family and enjoying the fact that we all have food and a roof over our heads.

And this year it was celebrated Nov. 29, only a few days after Thanksgiving. ( And if you look at the ad, it obviously was a Thanksgiving period ad due to the words "SHOP THANKSGIVING DAY...") It was not Chirstmas yet!

So please, do not discontinue shopping at Bestbuy because of their attempt to gain more business by extending well wishes to the Muslim community, but becuase they have HIIIIGH prices! (Seriously, that place is EXPENSIVE!!)

In the meantime,

MERRY CHRISTMAS!
xoxo

I cracked up so hard. My best friend, she is magical.

Folks, Muslims exist. They exist in our country. They celebrate holidays. Best Buy, being a giant retailer, is smart enough to recognize this and do their darndest to try to cull Muslim favor by wishing them a happy holiday. THIS IS NOT A BAD FREAKING THING.

I would stop hanging out with someone because they boycotted Best Buy over this before I stopped shopping at Best Buy for being inclusive of religions other than my own. I cannot stand bigots, for real. I love seeing them straight up OWNED.

*Applause* for my BFF.

Amen. I was never more ashamed of someone than a friend who was proud of Madison for refusing to allow the Muslim mosque be built there. So much for the religious freedom the Pilgrims were looking for.....

Well, aside from the fact that the Pilgrims were only interested in their OWN religious freedom (Christmas was illegal in New England for a very long time), I did want to help you spread the word about Holiday shopping.

Go here, and feel free to link and post the picture on your blog, too.

Okay, but can I continue to boycott best buy because their customer service sucks?

And this, Stacy, is why I love you.

Best Buy could probably sacrifice puppies on an altar built of elephant tusks, and most of the men in Mississippi would still dream of spending every cent of their discretionary income there.

Some things, such as a lust for big-screen plasma TVs, are just more important than bigotry.

APPLAUSE TO YOUR BFF!! I can totally understand why other countries think Americans are self-centered and obnoxious when things like this surface. *sigh*

I haven't shopped at Best Buy for YEARS. Not because they extend well wishes to others.... but because I walked in there with $3grand in cash to spend and NOBODY would wait on me. (Obviously they did not KNOW I had that much cash to spend). I talked to a manager (after waiting 20 minutes for him to even show up) and he didn't even care. So I walked out. See ya... I'll spend my hard earned cash somewhere else thank-you-very-much.
