It's George W. Bush's last day in office. He's been the president for most of my adult life, for my entire marriage, for my son's whole life. He sucked, straight up. And tomorrow, he won't be the president anymore. It's strange. It's like I'm waking up from a very long, very terrible nightmare.
Of course, tomorrow, another nightmare will begin with Obama. Meet the new boss, same as the old boss. Change, my tail. We'll see.

While I really disagree that Bush sucked and we're waking from a nightmare, I do agree it feels incredibly weird. Being the same age as you, it's the same for me--he's been THE President for our adulthood to this point. It's weird.
Are we getting old?
As a Southerner, I say be wary of senators from Illinois :p
Sharon... You might be :P
I totally agree we are walking away from a massive nightmare!
As one of my friends said today, "Tomorrow marks the end of an error."
I don't think Bush sucked totally. He was my best friend at tax time, no joke. But I disagree with some of what he did. I disagree more with what Obama *will* do and I will no longer have a friend at tax time. :(
I believe we're walking away from one pretty bad dream into a full-on nightmare. But that's just me and I hope and pray I'm the wrongest I've ever been.
All the politicians are screwing us over royally and while big cheeses are getting bailed out the avg family is getting sunk...deeper and deeper.
All I have to say is, "YES, YOU ARE GETTING OLD!! ANCIENT, in fact!"
And you're still three and a half years older. :D
I'm older than all y'all! My "first president as an adult" was another guy with an accent - he was from Arkansas, though.
I cannot WAIT!!! BBye Bush!! Get the heck out!!! Hope is such a nice thing.
Oh and, funny, I remember Clinton and Reagan and Bush Sr more than idiot W. Mostly I think because W made me so violently angry he actually made me ill and I couldn't watch the news.
I don't mind paying taxes to take care of our citizens. It is the right thing to do.
I love the nanny state we've created. When did people lose the ability to take care of themselves?
President Bush rejected the principle of limited government and paved the way for the socialist onslaught that begins in ten hours. Bush gave up trying to hold his finger in the dam, and now it's about to burst.
I actually graduated from college during the Clinton administration, and the night Bush was elected was one of the ten best days of my life. I fear that I will look back at tomorrow and see it as one of the ten worst.
If this Illinois senator follows the path of his predecessor, I might be siding with the Stars and Bars this time. Yankees are lily-livered wimps. If this generation had been around for Pearl Harbor, we'd be speaking German right now instead of Chinese in ten years.
oh please. Even Jesus commanded us to take care of the least among us. The Sacred Cow Social Security was an answer to people not saving for their own retirements. It is society's duty to take care of it's citizen. That is what being civilized is all about - taking care of the less fortunate and least among us, when each of us is that person.
Watercolor - what Jesus commanded was not for the government to spend billions and billions of dollars every year taking care of those who will not take care of themselves. I doubt what He had in mind was people who spend generation after generation on government aid with no mind to stop. That's what our "helpful society" has created.
It's not the duty of society to take care of those less fortunate. It's the duty of those less fortunate to take care of themselves, and our duty, INDIVIDUALLY, as Christians, to help when those who are less fortunate need it. Not as a society. Not as forced by our government. Individually.
And I would certainly be able to tithe more and donate more if I weren't forced to give up nearly half of my income to help those "less fortunate," who are actually driving Lexuses while I'm driving a 11-year-old jalopy because I'm too honest to cheat the system.
