Surprise!

My husband sucks at lying and surprises, bless his heart. The man, in 7 and a half years of marriage, has rarely successfully kept a secret from me. For this reason, I am confident that he'll never have an affair.

On Sunday, he said he needed to go pick up a co-worker named John from the airport. (I totally almost wrote "a co-worker from the airport named John"). I saw the car, carrying two passengers, approaching the driveway right around the same time that I smelled the death cloud of poo that was my son. I figured Drew's poor co-worker didn't want to be a part of that, so I rushed Ace out of the room. Drew saw me running down the hallway and said "Come say hi to John!" I said something over my shoulder about John not wanting to see this, and said I'd be right back. Drew said "I bet he would." That's when I knew something was up.

I went to completing the task at hand and into the room walks a man named John. Not Drew's co-worker. My daddy, fresh off a plane from Indiana. HUGE surprise. I asked Drew how he kept it from me and he said "I just didn't talk about it." Fair enough.

I haven't seen my dad since Ace was born. Ace took to him pretty much right away, peppering him with questions like "How ya doing, Grandpa? You doing good? You doin' alright?" As soon as Ace woke up this morning, it was "Where's Grandpa? What's Grandpa doing?" I think they're bonding pretty well.

This was such an awesome surprise at such an awesome time. Daddy and I are pretty close, and needless to say this will keep me from moping on the couch watching Doctor Who all day. Of course, since there's really nothing in Jackson that would especially interest my dad, we've sat on the couch watching TV most of the day anyway, but at least I was hanging out with him. I made him his favorite cookies this morning and took him to Ichiban. I'm gonna keep Ace home from school on Wednesday and figure out something to do... We'll go pumpkin picking for all I care. I'm just so happy he's here.

Kudos, Drew. Well done. I'm kinda proud of ya.

It's all about the event; the secret was worth it and he kept it. Good for him!
