SEATTLE, WA -- The new retro logo at Starbucks is stirring controversy.
The logo shows a mermaid with partially-covered breasts.
A christian [sic] group based in San Diego called The Resistance says the logo looks like a naked woman with her legs spread like a prostitute.
The Resistance is calling for a national boycott of Starbucks.
Starbucks says the logo is appropriate. It'll be around for a few weeks.
The logo is based on a 16th century Norse woodcut of a two-tailed mermaid.
(Seriously, that's the whole article. Nothing more than that.)
It's BOOBS. Just freakin' boobs. Used for nourishment and to hold up tube tops. Illustrated boobs, on a mermaid. If you want to boycott Starbucks, there are so many other valid reasons.
The only thing I can find about this "Christian-based" group is a website for a petulant 9-11 conspirator and Ron Paul supporter. This leads me to believe that the guy's only trying to drum up business for his sad, sad book, because Ron Paul supporters aren't big on the censorship. Therefore, I'm not going to launch into my normal "This country is crazy" speech and talk about our absolutely bizarre love/hate relationship with boobs. If anyone else jumps on this weirdo's bandwagon, I'll start pontificating.
