swim class

Okay, swim class was seriously awesome. Ace broke out in a HUGE grin as soon as we got in the water and didn't stop smiling most of the time. His little lips turned blue about halfway through and we got banished to the sunny corner of the pool, but he was still having fun.

He floated while I was holding the back of his head, he held on to the side of the pool, he dunked, he "torpedoed" (being shoved to another person while underwater), and he enjoyed the entire thing. A little crying after being dunked, but otherwise, fantastic.

One thing worried me though. We have play group once a week, and while Ace does seem testy around other children in general, he does seem to concentrate his rage on one little boy, Thomas. Thomas is a perfectly polite kid, around 14 months old, very sweet, but Ace HATES him. While Thomas was being torpedoed, he was not at all happy and would come up out of the water crying and rubbing his eyes. Every time he'd go under, however, and Ace was watching, Ace would laugh this evil little maniacal laugh. Please Lord, don't let my kid grow up to be a murderer.

The teacher is trying to teach the kids to hold their breath by counting to 3, blowing in their faces, and then dunking them. Apparently, by the end of the class, they learn to hold their breath after you count to three. As y'all know, my genius son has been counting. I got him to go all the way from 2-10 the other day, but since then, he's going straight for the glory - counting from 7 through 10, then smiling really big. So the teacher was showing us how to dunk the kids and said "One, two, three," and Ace said "SIX! Semnun! aaayyyyt! Nooooiiinnne! TEN!!" I kinda felt bad dunking him after that.

I think I'll bring one of those waterproof disposable cameras to the next few classes. I can't wait till next week.

That's hysterical. I'm so glad he loves the water! My godson was terrified of it at that age. Heck, even last summer we were in their little pool and I accidentally bumped his raft and knocked him over. He screamed, then literally accused me of trying to kill him. Their pool isn't but about 4 ft deep!

Oh yay! I always loved swim class with Blake!! And he LOVED it too... and is like a fish still. My mother swears he has gills :)

As for Ace cracking up at Thomas' misfortune.... I wouldn't worry about it. Ya never know what's going to be funny to a 22mo old :)

HUGS!

I'm picturing Ace with a Snidely Whiplash mustache and rubbing his hands together like Mr. Burns as he plots the demise of his swim class rival.
