Alright, now see?

I was watching Judge Judy today. A woman was being sued for withholding the government check for babysitting from her cuuuuuzin, who babysat her 3 children. Oh, and ol' girl was great with child number 4.

3, maybe 4 different baby daddies...

A weave to beat all weaves...

On government assistance...

21 years old...

Okay, now any one of those things would not be necessarily horrible alone. You can be a good mother with 3-4 baby daddies - some things just don't work out the way you planned. You can be a good mother with an unbe-weave-able hairdo - but seriously, just because you can, doesn't mean you should. You can be a good mother on government assistance - sometimes people need a little help. You can be a good mother at 21 years old - my grandma had my dad and two of his siblings before she was 22.

Add them all together? You're doing it wrong.

Why in the heckers (really, I would love to say something stronger) is the good state of Michigan giving this woman financial assistance because she doesn't have a job because apparently her job is getting knocked up, yet she has a weave that probably cost more than my first car? Hmm?

Stupid pill, people, stupid pill. Stupid is clearly working well for this woman's fertility.

Also, I must have really acclimated myself to Mississippi well. A woman from Alabama was being sued because she hit a deer with her sister's car. When asked what she did with the deer, she said "I ate it." As the whole courtroom audience gaped in horror, I shrugged and said "Eh, makes sense." I mean, why let all that good meat go to waste?

i know what you mean...
but, i know some of my relatives (right now) that would freeze the deer meat if they happen to hit one. maybe we should go on one of the court shows just to be funny...or maybe jerry springer...that is it...springer! ha ha

Michigan is absurd. When we lived there I was working p/t at CVS. The area was less than nice, let's just say. I was shocked at the number of people coming in w/ food stamps, only top see them go out to their fancy-rimmed SUV in the parking lot. It disgusted me. (it's actually why I started blogging! lol. to vent about working there) It's so messed up what MI allows. Governor Granholm is a total joke.

Sigh. I understand.

BTW, I've acclimated as well; I hit a deer a couple of years ago. My first thought was about my car, the second was about all of the wasted meat now sitting on the side of the road.

Heck, I had just tenderized half of it with my bumper ...

if you go on the MS Department of Wildlife Fisheries & Parks site, to the records page, you'll see the biggest and best deer killed with guns, bows and (drumroll please) pickups. Doesn't seem very sportsmanlike to me, but hey, venison is venison. LOL

Hey now... I LIKE Michigan :) But I agree.. Granholm is one of the stupid people who annoy me. If I had my way unless you have a doctor's note that you absolutely CANNOT work at ANY job, then you can have welfare for 6 months. Period. Get a job.

I work with these people, guys :( I teach Head Start. I go on home visits to see SA-WEET cars in the driveway, HU-BANGOUS tvs, surround sound systems to beat heck, jewelry that I'd nearly kill for.... and neither parent is working. How does that happen? I work my ARSE off, my husband does too. We don't even PAY for our house for pete's sake because my in-laws own it and we can't make ends meet! We are driving borrowed cars, and living paycheck to paycheck.

Something is DEFINITELY wrong with the system.

Yes... some folks DO need assistance... I have used it myself for a total of 6 months out of my ENTIRE life (and I'm 42). The latest... I got $30 a month in food stamps to feed my family of 3. OK... so where do I get the REST of the cash? Where do I get the $$ for the car and the tv and the jewels?

GAH! Now you got me going Stacey!

Thanks a lot. LOL :)

Hey... off the subject... have you got that support group going yet?

Maybe neither parent is "working" as far as what can be tracked, but "under the table" work can be quite lucrative apparently. Yes, people exploit welfare and food stamp programs. But honestly, if you saw the kind of exploitation that "corporate welfare" permits, your eyes would pop out of your head.

If by "under the table" you mean "slingin' da rock", then yes.

Again with the corporate welfare. Oy vey.

blake and lilly's momma-up until a year ago we lived in Michigan, too. I also taught. Not Head Start, but first grade. Several of my students had previously been in the Head Start program. BIG SIGH...I saw much of what you wrote about.

Anyway, just wanted to say I wasn't bashing MI. After all, I was born there. :)

Jo said...

Oh Sharon... I didn't feel like you were bashing MI ... just stating that although I agree that it's "absurd" I do like living here and really don't want to leave this state. But I want a job in the public school and that just is NOT available in MI right now --- 75 resumes sent out, zero calls?? Yeah... something's not right!

So... I have a phone interview on Tues in OH. *shrug* We'll see. I know it's not going to be perfect no matter where I go... but I am feeling less than worthy at the agency I'm with now and I am ready for a change.

Melinda.... I know that there are jobs that pay "under the table", and I am not trying to be mean or stereotypical. Just stating what I see.

My job is so emotionally draining and I am getting to the point of not being able to do this anymore.

I had so much fun hanging with you last night even if it was just for a little bit, you rock star you.

Blake and Lilly's Momma,

I didn't think you were being mean or stereotypical. I've seen the same thing and I think it's shameful. I truly believe in the social safety net, but I think there are some people who are just abusing it. But that will be the case no matter what we do. We humans are a sorry lot sometimes.

JesusthroughMary,

Cuz I know you secretly like it, I'll say it again: Corporate welfare. haha

the whole deer thing reminds me of that poo poo broussard skit where they see ET and they don't know what it is and poo poo says to start cooking the rice. Been there.
