I am filled with insane rage.

University of Mississippi Medical Center's billing office can kiss my foot. After I've taken a really long walk in flip-flops in the French Quarter right after a rainy day during Carnival. And a bum pees on my foot. Then I step in a pile of spicy mustard.

I just typed out a really long post explaining everything, but none of it matters. There has been a bill that's been haunting me for a year and a half, because UMC cannot be bothered to file a claim to my insurance company under the correct tax ID number. I've told them EXACTLY what number they need, and have been told repeatedly that "it'll be taken care of." Yet after many many many months of not hearing from them at all, and stupidly assuming it'd been "taken care of," I got a call this morning from a very nice lady at a collections agency asking me to pay $65. No. No I won't. If you'd told me a year and a half ago that I'd be fighting this freaking long, I'd have paid it and avoided the hassle. If UMC would file the paperwork correctly, they'd get paid. That's all they need to do.

They need to send themselves to collections.

You may see me on the news tomorrow. I'll be the one at UMC's billing office singing rebellious rock anthems, like "We're Not Gonna Take It."

Write them a letter. Explain the situation. Tell them they have until xx-xx-xxxx to get it taken care of and if you ever get another collection call about it you will report them to the BBB. Then if you do... report them.

I use the BBB ALL the time! Damn lawn care company kept bugging us to use their service. The guy tried to tell me that he couldn't just remove my name and number from their list. I told him he'd better figure out HOW to remove my name and number from their list because if I EVER got another call from them I would report them to the BBB for harassment.

It's been 4 (?) years... I've not gotten a single call again.

But I feel for ya... I was just told my car insurance wasn't paid due to "insufficient funds" because the bank couldn't find the correct account because I didn't add "000" to the end of the account number so they'd know it was a savings. Uh, hello? I ONLY HAVE A SAVINGS ACCOUNT THERE!!!!!

Ps... which channel should I watch??

Not surprised by this story at all. Husband works over there - not in billing thank the Lord ;) - and I don't see how they stay in business! Seriously! Their billing is ridiculous!

I can't believe you are STILL fighting over this stupid bill! It's worse than when my insurance was messed up (with BOTH of my girls' births). Totally ridiculous.

I do like the BBB idea, though. I'll have to remember that.

The incompetence of some of the people who work in medical billing never ceases to amaze me.

If the BBB doesn't work, the "I'll have my attorney get a hold of you soon" line does work. If you don't have one, I'll give you my attorney's name to throw up in the air. :o)

I can't believe that bill hasn't been resolved yet. I think you were complaining about that when I was down there.

I have another friend that had an issue with their billing dept. They wouldn't stop sending her a bill for her son's circumcision. She'd already paid one bill for it. This was a 2nd bill. Different account number. Different date of service. Exactly how many times can you remove one foreskin???
