ghetto gateau

I am:
-A good mother
-A good friend
-A good cook

I am not:
-A nature lover
-A do-it-yourselfer
-A cake decorator

To wit:

The squiggly lines on the hood? Those are lightning bolts.

At least I got his name right...

Oh well... This is just a practice cake for tomorrow's play group birthday party, so I guess I have a little leeway. Y'all need to tell me what I'm doing wrong here. On my friend Cindy's suggestion, I think I'll thin out the icing a little bit for the cake for Saturday's party and pipe it on instead of trying to smear it.

And I can't say I didn't have any fun...

Wilton makes Icer Tips - they're HUGE and they help get the icing on the sides and stuff easier. Thinning out the "base layer" of icing with light corn syrup will make it easier to spread.

Girl. I could give you pointers all day long but it's a trial and error process. Take it from someone who is still learning.

It's fun to make the practice cakes though. At least you have a reward even if it looks like crap!

I think you did good for your first try!

You should put the number on the doors, too.

You should also have the car sponsored by the pharmaceutical company that makes his muscle relaxers. :o)

I wish I had the creativity and patience to do something like that.

cake decorating is not my thing. i used to work at the customer service desk at Jitney Jungle (now Piggly Wiggly). once after the deli was closed, a customer came in wanting a cake. ok. no problem. then they wanted me to decorate the cake to say "Happy Birthday Junior." when they say how bad i was at it, they told me just to write "H. B. Jr." lol

My mom decorated any number of birthday cakes for me and Armand, a skill that I'm sorry to say is NOT hereditary. I think it looks great!
