18 months

My sweet Ace,

You're 18 months old today. Every time the 4th of a month hits, I cry a little bit thinking about how you started out and how for a while I didn't think you'd make it through the night. You had a rough start, but you're awesome now.

Click on any picture for full-sized goodness.

You're crawling more and more lately on your hands and knees, and I'm so proud of you. You've started cruising along furniture and in your playpen, which also makes me want to cry a little bit because I honestly didn't think you'd walk, despite what everyone told me. You're still not quite able to sit on your butt with your legs in front of you, but you sit on your feet like a champ. I don't know why people ever feel sorry for you - you get everywhere you want to go.

Daddy has definitely unknowingly become the good cop to my bad cop. Every time your naughty little butt wants to do something wrong and you get told no, you start sobbing and crawl over to Daddy, who of course picks you up. He says he doesn't mean to undermine my authority, but I think he just wants to be your favorite.

While you're not quite talking yet, I know you're trying. I know what you mean, generally, when you say "deh." If I'm giving you something to eat that you really like and you say "DAH?", that means "more?" I've worked pretty hard to get you to say that. When your speech therapist tries to get you to say "cake," and you say "guk-kah, guk-kah," that's just doggone cute. When I try to get you to say "banana," "yogurt," "cheese," or just about anything else, and you say "DAH!" with utmost sincerity, well, that's pretty cute too.

You love your bath, and hate getting out. You love when we eat your tummy, and hate having your diaper changed. You love hearing "I'm gonna get you!!!!" and hate hearing "No." You love your physical therapist, and hate physical therapy. You love your Granny, and hate other children.

You love Hand Grenades from Tropical Isle. What can I say.

I love the hugs you've started giving. I love how when I say "hugs?" you lay your head on my shoulder and wrap your arms around me. I love getting kisses from you - although it's usually more like you opening your mouth as wide as it can possibly go and putting it over my mouth. I love it when I say "I can't hear you!" and you put your hands over your ears. I love it when I say "Where's Mommy's nose?" and you point to my nose.

You are such a good sleeper. Thank you.

Mostly, I love your smile.

Happy 18 months to you, my sweet baby boy. I'm so thankful for you, and I love you so much.

Ace rocks the house!

Think about it; he's had to go through the war zone literally from day one, so he's already better trained for challenges than kids three times his age. When he gets older and other kids are afraid of hard work or change, he's gonna take life by the scruff of the neck and shake it until it submits.

He is so gonna kick butt, and his parents can claim partial credit for that for raising him so well.

Happy Day Ace, and to Mom and Dad too!

Damn you! You two made me get all teary eyed.

Congrats our little man, keep up the great work, and don't hold in that need to kick anyone who feels sorry for you. They deserve it!!

Okay, congrats, I'm crying. Crying and laughing and then crying some more.

I can't believe how much Ace has changed since I first "met" him through your blog and now that I know him, I can't imagine not being able to read about him every day. He is absolutely PRECIOUS! I love the picture of him in the stroller and the one of him sleeping. Sweet, sweet, sweet!!
