Here is the current layout of our living room.
We would like to buy more chairs but we're not sure where to put them. The way the living room is laid out, there was no real good place to put the television. The cable outlet was in one of the bookshelves. The bookshelves are definitely not big enough to put anything bigger than a 20" television in, and Drew wanted a nice big 27 incher. Besides - bookshelves are for books. And tchotchkes.
Since we don't want the TV to be the main focus of the room, we bought a nice big armoire for it and all of it's friends. It's a gorgeous armoire, solid pine, doors that swing all the way back - we love it. Now we're just not sure how to add more furniture to the room. We'd like to have at least 2 more chairs, and have some way to make it so all of the furniture is in a nice sitting room setting, with the fireplace as the main background, but in a way that someone can comfortably sit in the chairs and watch the TV. I considered getting chairs that could be easily moved depending on what the situation called for. What do y'all think?

i suggest providing enough pieces of upholstered furniture for each cat to sit on plus company. my cats had territory issues with the one chair and had "butt" tug of wars, where strangely the skinny cat always managed to take up all the space (kind of like husband and twin).
How big is this room?
What do you want to be the focal point of the room?
Vicki: The room is about 20 x 20ish? Maybe 15x15?
Angie: I'd like the focal point of the room to be the fireplace, but I'd also like people to be able to see the TV with the greatest of ease.
my suggestion is to think angular. put the entertainment system against one wall (by the front door) then get two matching couches, and angle them facing the TV with the fireplace to the side of them...
I'm not describing this well.. am I?
